Steve McQueen Background Information
Steve McQueen was born March 24th 1930, in Beech Grove, Indiana. He became one of the most famous and iconic movie stars of a generation, synonymous with the term 'cool'. Films like The Great Escape (which featured the stunt scene on a Triumph), Bullitt, The Getaway, Papillon, Nevada Smith, and The Sand Pebbles (for which he received an Academy Award Nomination), marked a big screen career spanning 27 years. An avid car and motorcycle racer, McQueen has been quoted as saying, "I am not sure if I am an actor who races or a racer that acts."

Steve McQueen and Triumph were strongly associated, both when acting and when racing. In September of 1964 Steve McQueen was chosen as a member of the US team for the 'International Six Day Trials', the most challenging motorcycle event in the world. McQueen, riding a 650 Triumph, had to ride 200 miles per day, competing in a range of endurance and skill based events, through mountains, forests and rocky trails, against the best riders the world had to offer. 1964 event was held behind what was then the communist Iron Curtain in East Germany. Despite sustaining injuries that caused him to withdraw early from the event, his team managed to finish in second place and take home the silver medal.
